The sweetly scented flowers are white and creamy yellow with flecks of deep
violet around the edges. No two are exactly alike, but every one is
irresistible. 'Rebecca' belongs to a group called Violettas, which offer a
compact habit, a strong vanilla perfume, and flowers without lines at the base
of the petals. They also like to bloom heavily all summer, and you can count
on 'Rebecca' to delight your eyes and nose from spring till hard frost. Viola
is a valuable genus composed of more than 400 species of perennials from the
world's temperate regions. There has been much hybridizing among species,
resulting in many gradations of flower form and hardiness. The varieties
offered here are reliably perennial for us. They prosper in full sun or
partial shade (partial shade is always best in the South and the warmest
reaches of Zones 9 and 10 in the West). Violas want even moisture and will
tolerate quite damp soil.
