'Gardener's World' comes to us from the garden of Christine Stott at
Buckinghamshire, England. Its name is that of the popular magazine and BBC TV
program, which featured it as a study of how a new plant enters the market,
from discovery to promotional launch.
Formerly Coronaria tomentosa, the straight species has high-wattage magenta
flowers and an unfortunate tendency to self-sow in the garden. 'Gardener's
World' represents tremendous improvements on both scores: The flower is
larger, with a far more refined and attractive color, and it is sterile. It
will bloom where it's planted - period.
