If a vigorous hosta with bright green leaves and sweetly scented white blooms
is on your short list, this is the best one around. Royal Standard tolerates
more sun than most without developing a bleached appearance or burned leaf
edges. (We recommend providing a little shade in very hot areas.) It also
grows in less than great soils, including clay. As an extra bonus, the funnel
-shaped scented flowers are charming additions to casual summer bouquets.
Americans love "new" but Royal Standard, the first patented hosta, is a fine
example of why the latest introductions aren't always best. Excellent planted
in groups of 3, 5 and more.
