My D. spectabilis ‘Alba’ is a medium sized perennial with light green attractive foliage. In zone 3, in the shade, the foliage lasts until frost. This bleeding heart has all white flowers which are very pretty. They dangle in a row from the underside of a branch. The white hearts near the main stem are fully open now, with the bead below, but the flowers on the end of the stalk are still dangling down like Solomon’s seal flowers.
Luxuriant
For those who love the graceful, lacey look of bleeding hearts but long for flowers that last beyond spring, allow us to introduce Luxuriant. Commonly called fringed bleeding heart, this attractive plant blooms from late spring to early summer and then continues to produce deep pink to rosy red flowers sporadically throughout the summer and into early fall. As an added bonus, Dicentra Luxuriant also makes an excellent ground cover when provided with moist soil, with delicate, deep green foliage that looks soft and lush throughout the growing season.
