Pinus strobus ’Torulosa’, also sometimes referred to as Pinus strobus ’Contorta’, is an interesting plant, but seems to not be for everyone. After discussing the merits of this variety at a trade show with one attendee who was expressing how gorgeous it was, another attendee shortly thereafter asked if it had herbicide damage. As the name implies, ’Torulosa’ is twisted in all ways needles and stems but has an upright narrow pyramidal form. ’Torulosa’ grows approximately four to six inches per year, reaching 25 feet high and six feet wide in 25 years.
